Medical Director and Founder
Dr. Janine Blackman is the founder and director of RiverSoul Wellness. Her medical practice is devoted to natural bio-identical hormone replenishment and nutritional and functional medicine with the mission to prevent, diminish, or delay the causes of premature aging and mortality, and to optimize overall well-being and vitality throughout the lifespan. Dr. Blackman is a uniquely trained expert in the fields of preventive and youthful-aging medicine.
Dr. Blackman formerly served as the Medical Director of the largest NIH-funded Complementary Medicine Program in the United States at University of Maryland in Baltimore. Presently, Dr. Blackman is Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University Medical Center. She has been an invited speaker throughout the United States on the integration of complementary and alternative therapies in modern medicine today.
Dr. Blackman graduated from the very competitive combined MD-PhD program at University of Maryland with her PhD in Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine. During her PhD studies she was involved in research into the risks and benefits of hormone replacement therapies. Dr. Blackman completed her internship and residency in family medicine at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore. After residency, she pursued a residency fellowship program in Integrative Medicine at University of Maryland and upon graduation she was appointed as a full-time Associate Professor in Family Medicine at University of Maryland.
Prior to founding RiverSoul Wellness, Dr. Blackman served as Medical Director of the Integrative Medicine Program at The Gilbert Clinic. This multi-disciplinary program was designed specifically for the treatment of people with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia. As designed by Jonathan Gilbert, LAc, the program involved the integration of Chinese Herbal Medicine, nutrition, individual psychotherapy, small group therapy, and modern medical oversight. This ground-breaking program is no longer available in its original 12-month format. However, in their private practices, both Dr. Blackman and Jonathan Gilbert continue to provide care for people with the conditions of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Burn-Out, or similar complex syndromes.
Dr. Blackman holds Board-Certification with the American Board of Family Medicine. She completed a full-time fellowship program in Integrative Medicine and is currently a Fellow in Anti-Aging, Regenerative, & Functional Medicine through the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. Dr. Blackman is committed to on-going learning and advancement in the areas of wellness, nutrition, preventive-aging, and longevity medicine. She is involved several weeks throughout the year in related medical conventions and educational programs.
